Preferred Experience / Qualifications

  • CPA (or attorney)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting (or law degree)
  • At least twelve to fifteen years of tax experience in public accounting
  • Significant experience with federal taxation
  • Has risen to the level of partner, or to the level just below partner, in tax, in a public accounting firm
  • Tax experience in the middle market includes:
    • S Corporations
    • C Corporations
    • Partnerships (including formation, funding, and operations)
    • Familiar with carried interest matters
    • Planning/consulting and compliance
    • Tax provision preparation or review for financial statements
  • Strong international tax experience a definite plus
  • Has spent the majority of his or her professional career in the Houston area
  • Has the ability to leverage existing contacts and to develop new ones in order to maintain and grow the tax practice in Houston
  • A demonstrated history of client satisfaction and strong relationship building skills
  • Able to attract, train, develop and retain tax professionals
  • Fosters a collegial culture / atmosphere
  • Able to thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment

Details

The opening in Houston has been created to support the growth of the Firm and due to a retirement. As such, there is a book of business to walk into. The primary focus is on federal taxation – primarily partnerships and some corporations and high net worth individuals. Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage multiple federal income tax engagements including compliance and consulting services
  • Identify and deliver high-value tax planning strategies for clients
  • Manage and expand client relationships by providing timely and competent communication and value-added services
  • Participate in recruiting both entry level staff and experienced professionals
  • Develop and energize the tax staff and provide them with leadership, counseling and career guidance
  • Recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of the tax staff
  • Be a resource for the other partners in tax, audit and advisory
  • Actively participate in business development activities – seeking to address new issues for existing clients and also pursuing new clients
  • Represent the Firm at selected industry and community events
  • Provide thought leadership
  • Participate in the management of the office
